A van belonging to UK Marin importer ATB Sales was broken into near Bury, Manchester, last night (3 February) and 11 bikes were stolen, along with some cycling kit.
ATB Sales are offering a reward for recovery, or for information leading to recovery, of these bikes. If you have any information, call them on 07775 786709 or the MBUK office on 01225 442244

The missing gear includes:
1 prototype short-travel Marin 4X bike – the only one in the UK
1 prototype Marin Attack Trail – different geometry to standard spec
4 Marin Wolf Ridge bikes
4 Marin Mount Vision bikes
2 Whyte E120 bikes
Tools, THE full-face helmets and boxes loaded with pedals and spares
The Marin 4X bike is the only of its kind in the UK and has a custom white paintjob with gold and red graphics. It has a white RockShox Revelation fork, deep-section rims with Mountain Biking UK stickers on, and a very trick build.
The Attack Trail is bright orange and has a slightly slacker head angle than stock. It has a 38-tooth chain ring with an MRP chainguide up front, Hope brakes, Answer handlebars and RockShox Pike forks with Push tuning.

What the hell how can so many bikes go missing, obviously planned. i'll keep an eye out, but i dobt anyone is going to head to taunton of all places. Hope they are retrieved.
WOW! Thats bad! only a few miles from my house...deffo keep an eye out in the off chance its local scumbo that took em....sounds organised though for sure
holy cow tht many bikes. I live no where near manchester but i'll keep an eye out when i go to Chicksands or Cwmcarn.
Gotta say those graphics on the prototype r lush!
Gotta say those graphics on the prototype r lush!
if its the only one of its kind, the thieves would be pretty stupid if they were to ride it around... anyways im sorry to here about your loss, it was a sick bike
in this country their stupid enough to ride it round or try to sell it, its got to be a group of chavs for christ sake!!
Seriously.
Stop taking Vans/bikes out without security on them!!
My dad does security stuff for vans, all it takes is a lock or a protective plate and they can be secured!!
hope you get them back tho, im sure you will, you cant hide a bike like that!!

All it takes is an angle grinder, reciprocating saw or a crowbar....these gangs make a living out of robbing vans/lorries. All the security in the world will only stop the opportunists. As the saying goes...What kind of key opens any door? a pikey.
Cheers for bringing attention to the theft intern, we'll keep are eyes peeled.

Well even more stupid putting loads of expensive bikes in a van with WINDOWS. If they did then well.... your just asking for them to be nicked.
i think i actually rode the orange attack trail on demo day my work (bike shop) sent me on. Saw the 4x bike too but the dude wouldn't let me get my grubby mitts on that one. Looked like a sweet bike tho... sh*t luck
personaly i think its stuped that these are take try not advertising a van with lodsa stickers n it saying marin when u have prototypes in it jesus its like leaving a prototype car diagrams on the internet for free acsess
I am so with u on that one iambike. Thats got to be a huge blow for Marin. I hope the guy who did it gets caught and that they beat his ass to a pulp.
dust off your torch and pitchfork, its time for a good ol' southern lynch squad!
yeehaw!
naw... but seriously, whoever the hell did that deserves their head bashed in.
i hope you find them.

yep -got to agree with you there - i have never personally been bike nicked, but i'm sure it sucks like nothing else
Trust me dude it does! I had a bike stolen from me a few years ago and it really sucks! They tok it right off my apartment porch. The bastards!
Those dirty bastards... I hope they dont respray that Prototype frame, thats sweet. Hopefully they'll be recovered.
wtf! i bet huever stole them is having a field day! unlucky guys i hope you get them back! i also doubt they going to be in chesterfield theres nowhere decent to ride...
why are these guys leaving thousand dollar bikes in a van parked in an open lot overnight - doesn't make sense to me and there was a thread about the van stolen in BC just a few weeks back - take a hint
By the sounds of it (being in Manchester) they were on their way back from a test ride...with the adverse weather (m-ways being closed etc) it's likely they had to stop at a B&B.
I hate to say it, but ya, DUMB. I won't even park my car somewhere I can't see it while I''m eating lunch if my bike is in it, let alone leave 11 bikes in it overnight.
or take the nice, rare, expensive bikes out of the van overnight. Stuff gets nicked out of vans all the time (thats why insurance companies hardly ever cover contents). Bad luck though
When TOP GEAR went to america they had to make sure they stopped in a B&B with a secure lockup area to put all the Lambo's and other lush cars they were driving in. Its their fault to be honest, all we can do is look!!
Let's not forget that these bikes didn't belong to some kid who saved for a year or two to buy it while working at McDonlads - and when their bike is gone the police and insurance company has 1001 excuses why they can't do anything about it. This was Marin or its distributor. Likely they have insurance, or at the very least they got them wholesale and can write off the loss .... not exactly the same as when you have your bike stolen.
i will be at delamere on saterday (local to manchester) if i see anything, ill get a good description of them and report it (Y)
never mind report id get it there and then if i saw the proto then tell marin and maybe they will give you one if if comes in to production
What do they hope to do with the prototypes? You idiots cant sell them, and anybody who knows very much about MTBing might be able to see the difference.
im guessing they will respray the prototypes, and if they decide to sell them they will most likely strip them down and sell them as spares....
nahh peaty is to fast,
you want a slow person to its more painfull for the f*ckers
may sound a bit evil but they deserve it

i recon keep a look out on ebay and southerndownhill.com
they probably want it gone asap for some quick cash
still i can't believe you left the bikes in a van kinda your fault your in Britain everything gets nicked!

Not to be a party pooper but anyone who has half a brain would strip those bikes down, or they will be found on a local council estate, poorly painted being skidded around. Everyone can keep an eye out up North but theres probably more chance of hell frezing over than seeing those again

Wow some1 scored bigtime! YOU SHOULD PROBABLY BEEF UP THE SECURITY AND BE A LITTLE MORE CAREFUL WITH THE RIDES EVEN THO I KNOW IF THEY WANT IT BAD ENOUGH THEY WILL FIND A WAY TO GET IT! When I leave my bike and I go out of town its locked with 2 locks around 6 olympic weight lifting plates I figure if there going to take it make them work for it 6x 45lb plates swinging on krypto locks and they have to go up a flight of stairs to get out! I love my bike that much! Too bad im on the injury list for now!
like the idear wiht the whights lol you got to make them work for it i got mine locked up with 2 land anchors and a wall anchor with 4 Heavy Duty chains oh yer and one going thought the frame and wheels. when will people learn to lock things up properly if they can get thought all that with out makeing a nosie and wakeing me up then they deserve it
Hahaha, most thieves don't care about the frame. I have seen frames sawed through to steal the bike. The components are worth quite a bit, and they are less traceable then a frame with a serial number on it. Locks keep honest people honest. If a thieve wants it bad enough he will find a way...
enduro i give u props for that! my friend had a set of the new vendetta cranks wen they first came out he locks is bike up out side of a fking wall mark wile he goes to take a leak and get some mc pukes and goes bak out side and the theif cut his chain and bb off the bike to get to them......note this was like brod daylight so the theif was cause too bad my friend couldnt get the same frame that he had before, custom made Doberman, didnt have enough money to replace it and his rents couldn't claim on their house insurance
well that sucks! I guess if someone on this site sees somebody riding or trying to sell that 4x bike they will know that they stole it since it is soooo rare and cool
Tweekers suck!
Haro went through this not too long ago: http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/11/30/news/coastal/4_03_5311_29_07.txt

i hate to say it, but leaving ELEVEN high end bikes in a van? especially prototype?! maybe they need to suffer at least one serious theft to learn their lesson...

thows guys are dumb. obv. they wont be able to ride them meany places without people noticing them bikes.
better watch out for that bike...those thieves are probably goin to paint it and add some different parts to it to make it seem like its different.
yea totally eh? If they were smart they'd take the bikes apart and sell the parts and re-paint the frames...even then though..they might still be noticible
Why do people have to steal bikes? Those are some sad SOB's. If anything, half the bikes are stripped down for sale of individual parts. I hope you can shove bamboo up there fingernails and chop off there nuts once you find them. Good luck.
If the guy that has the prototype is into bikes...then he will ride it for sure but maybe not in the way people normally do
He'll be there humpin the life out of the forks, seat and every other part of it using it as a sex doll
That prototype bike has a tag on it, but it is now down to the police to do something about it. As the eleven bikes have been stolen as a whole, it is also possible to track the criminals down if the prototype one is found. The only thing we can do now is hope for the best.
These idiots that have stolen the bikes are probably right hacked off...There was no thought go into this heist...How can you get rid of something thats a one off proto...Gutted for them
Lols, right in my area. I can guarantee it was at mike cooksons. Chances are i'll see some primary school kid cruising on thwe proto in a few eeeks time.

why the hell do you people leaves expensive bikes, in an unattended van, overnight? sounds like you got what you were asking for.
They wear brand name track suits, have bad attitudes, and are usually terribly uneducated and poor. Most are known to hang out in groups, start fights, and steal others stuff. They mostly engage in petty crime, and the one term to sum it all up would be "juvenile delinquent".
[Reply]
Well that sucks, you might as well stolen Marin's babies. I hope you guys find the people responsible and they are brought to justice.
y the fuk wld sum one do it yee sweet bikes but thats low i wld keep an eye out but they aint gnna cum 2 jersey but if they do lol ill show the chavs that took it pricks sick bikes tho
I wish I'd stolen that 4X bike... but unfortunately for me I'm not that kind of scum
Have any of you considered that maybe the bikes were in the van because they were on some kind of journey? and thus have no where else to be put? OK you should try and avoid leaving them in the van overnight but It's not always avoidable... Locking them in the van (i.e. using bike locks) would've been sensible as most people who brake into vans are after tools not bikes... and thus are unlikely to be carrying the 12 inch bolt croppers required to cut a decent lock.

that f*ckin sucks, ill keep an eye out, but how many bikes were stolen? im not being picky or cocky im wondering cos in the list it says 12 bikes but on the info it says 11 bikes were stolen?
bikes get stolen everyday from people who save up for years to buy them and a multi million dollar company gets some stolen and the world cries bloody murder
I understand the oppinion of "they got what they deserved", but thats a pretty slack a** way to deal with any crime. Yeah my girlfriend likes to jog at night cause she works a normal job till 5pm, she got raped in the park where she jogs, "guess she got what she deserved"...cmon, maybe the theives should "get what they deserve"
you totally missed my point i said nobody cares when everyday peoples bikes get stolen your the one who said she got what she deserved not me sicko
shared on facebook mate !!!
im in minehead somerset but you never know
everybody share it on facebook and it will get found !!!!
